Now phpBB forum can be automatically once the JomSocial group is created. You can setup parent phpBB forum and the forum to copy permissions from ("source" forum). JomSocial group creator can be forum's moderator.

Demo?

demo would be good as im not completely clear exactly what it does or how/where to download

We can't show the demo for any reasons.
In fact the only you would see clearly is that link in JomSocial group page (see image in news text).

The main idea is that each new JomSocial group may have its own group of phpBB users and its own phpBB forum.

Depending on the permissions of the "source" forums configured, you can make this group forum available only for this phpBB group, so only its members will access it.

How to do this? I create a new group but nothing happen. will it automagically create a forum/category if a new group created?
