j1.6 menu item designation query

Postby sarrene » June 24th, 2011, 10:08 am

I have a question about setting up default menuid's for links.
In 1.5 it was not difficult at all to state which menu item id you wanted to have "highlighted" as your default for any given menu item.

Is this possible in j1.6 with the bridge? Is it possible to add that in somehow?

Example:
I have my top menu that has a couple links:
Forums | FAQ's | Support | (if not logged in/registered) Sign up now

I also have my main menu that has one set of items and sub items:

Community (top level menu item)
|_ Player Network (Jomsocial home)
... |_ Forums (Menu Item Alias to top menu Forums)
... |_ Groups
... |_ Profile (Jomsocial Profile)

So once you go to forum using the top menu, Community does NOT highlight of course (Sine I cannot find a way to set the default menuid for it to do so.

If you go to the forum via the Community menu item, you see in the breadcrumbs:
Home > Community > Player Network > Forums

This can get very long if you are inside a subforum and visiting a thread. I would prefer to have it just follow the default path from the top, but highlight the Community link.

So when you are at the forum you see the following in the breadcrumbs:
Home > Forums

So any idea if this is possible right now? If so, I feel like a dork for missing it.
If it is not possible at this moment.. is there a way (and if j1.6 supports it) to designate the default itemid to be highlighted?

Thank you so much!

You can try to enable "Activate Parent" in menu module settings, so 'Community' should be also highlighted.

And you can try to use a custom breadcrumbs module which will remove extra items.

I think I am going blind. I see this option in 1.5, however, I cannot find it anywhere in 1.6
Any thoughts?

I was thinking about a custom breadcrumb menu. I kind of wanted to avoid that if possible, but it may be what I have to do.

Peace,

Sorry, "Activate Parent" is really dropped in 1.6, but the parent active menu item may have the special CSS class, so probably you can highlight it via CSS.
