Migrating from Postnuke/PNphpBB2 to Joomla/phpBB3Hello there,
I have a simple question before embracing p8pBB bridge : does someone here already managed to migrate from a Postnuke 0.764/PNphpBB2 to Joomla 1.7.2/phpBB3 ? I'm asking this because i've just tried this with JFusion, and there seems to be a problem with new way phpBB3 managed passwords (old pw is converted at the first login). Here is how i did it : - Migrate from PNphpBB2 to phpBB3 -> ok, all users and posts are migrated correctly - Then, any user can login directly in phpBB3 (passwords seems to be converted at this stage) - Then i bridge phpBB3 with Joomla 1.7.2 through a user sync (JFusion) and now there is no way for old users to login, they are forced to ask for a new password through Joomla. The only users that can login are those that have connected once in the standalone phpBB3 before the user sync. The problem is known by the JFusion team, but all devs are quite busy, and nothing evolved for several monthes now. Gee, i even donate 50 euros at the time, hoping for a quick fix... So my question is, does p8pBB allow a migration from phpBB2 to phpBB3 (french board), then bridging to Joomla (usersync, Joomla being the "slave"), and then allow users to login through Joomla as usual with their "old" pw ? If it's a yes, i buy the thing RIGHT NOW Thanks for reading.
Re: Migrating from Postnuke/PNphpBB2 to Joomla/phpBB3I guess i'm too impatient, and decided to have a try by myself
I'll let you know how it goes, fingers crossed...
Re: Migrating from Postnuke/PNphpBB2 to Joomla/phpBB3p8pbb doesn't provide migration from phpBB2 to phpBB3.
The users will be able to login in Joomla with their phpBB passwords and vice versa. Let he without sin throw the first stone.
Re: Migrating from Postnuke/PNphpBB2 to Joomla/phpBB3Thanks for your answer Admin.
Do you mean users will only be able to login after being connected at least 1 time in the standalone phpBB3 forum (when password conversion has taken place) ? I had a quick test yesterday, and apparently this is the case. This is a real probelm for me, as there will not be an intermediate standalone phpbb3... Anyone knows of a script or hack that will convert all phpbb3 user's passwords to the new format as if they had connected 1 time (pw conversion from phpbb2) ? Thanks in advance.
Re: Migrating from Postnuke/PNphpBB2 to Joomla/phpBB3Example:
User has password A in phpBB and password B in Joomla. User logins with password A in Joomla - he can login, Joomla password is updated to A. or User logins with password B in phpBB - he also can login, phpBB password is updated to B. It is technically impossible to convert passwords, they are stored with 1 way encoding and you can't change the format without original plain password. Let he without sin throw the first stone.
Re: Migrating from Postnuke/PNphpBB2 to Joomla/phpBB3I find a temporary solution, by just NOT syncing users, and by only providing the login form from phpBB3. Then user connects through phpBB3 (password gets updated), and is auto-created by p8pbb bridge in Joomla. Then the user can connect from both sides. Works perfectly. I would just love a p8pbb Login module pulling infos from phpBB3, as does JFusion.
If i usersync with p8pbb, no one can login anymore, wetheir he connected one time through phpBB3 before (converted pw) or not (old pw). Even Admins have been "corrupted" (hopefully i had a backup). Except this, excellent work, the bridge works beautifully, thanks for your work folks !
Re: Migrating from Postnuke/PNphpBB2 to Joomla/phpBB3Hi, I am in the same situation as you. It would be great to get some more info about your setup.
How does the login look like for the users? And would it be possible to get a screenshot of your bridge admin settings ? Is it possible to visit your website? Any help is appreciated! Regards from Norway! - Jan Andrè
Re: Migrating from Postnuke/PNphpBB2 to Joomla/phpBB3The login for the users looks like usual Joomla or phpBB login.
We will add images to our bridge page next week. Let he without sin throw the first stone.
Re: Migrating from Postnuke/PNphpBB2 to Joomla/phpBB3
The first time a user comes back after migrating PN/PNphpBB2 to J!/phpBB3/p8pbb, the site MUST bring him to the actual phpBB3 login page, and NOT the J! or any other extension one. Simply because, as i stated earlier, the p8pbb synchronization of users just does not work as expected in case of a fresh phpBB2->phpBB3 update, as users must log in at least one time in phpBB3 for the passwords to be converted to the new phpbb3 format. Then, and only then, the user can login from anywhere (user will then exist in Joomla with the new password format). That's why i asked to the p8pbb team to build a login module for Joomla that will pull user infos directly from phpbb3 (where he exists) instead of Joomla (where he doesn't exist yet). I display a popup to first visitors (via the Simple Pop-Up plugin), to bring them to the phpbb3 login page, that's the best (and only) way i found (you should send a mailing to all users with the link to your forum login page).
Settings of p8pbb bridge are quite simple, compared to JFusion for example, but here they are anyway. I didn't join the CB and JomSocial as i don't use them ATM. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
Dunno if moderators allows this, but here it is : Main site (p8pbb Latest module at top of the page, a bit modified) : http://www.sounddesigners.org Forum : http://www.sounddesigners.org/forum.html
Let me know if you have other questions. One thing you should do before migrating from PN to J! is create groups in phpBB2 related to the PN/Zikula ones, and put the related users in them, so you can recover this automatically afterward (see the Groups settings in p8pbb). HTH.
Re: Migrating from Postnuke/PNphpBB2 to Joomla/phpBB3Dode, many thanks!
