p8pBB bridge and jomsocial demo?

Postby nokorthom » November 19th, 2011, 7:56 pm

I have a few pre-buy questions:

1 - Is there a demo of p8pBB bridge and joomsocial demo I can take a look? Or anybody has the site and like to let me take a look?

2 - I am still not deciding between using Kunena and PhpBB3. I know there are pos and cons but I really want a good forum integration with Jomsocial, would PhpBB 3 and this bridge give me more values?

3 - Is p8pBB Bridge uses Iframe to wrap Phpbb3 to integrate with Joomla?

4 - I have my Phpbb3 in the same level directory as Joomla, i.e., www.angkorthom.us/joomla and www.angkorthom.us/Phpbb3. Is it possible to bridge?

Thanks

1. Sorry, we don't have JomSocial demo. You can check this site: http://www.darkrelic.com
2. The functionality is similar but personally I think that phpBB + bridge have more features than Kunena.
3. No, the bridge doesn't use iframe, phpBB is loaded as usual Joomla component.
4. This is not possible, Joomla should be installed in root directory - http://www.angkorthom.us/, not in http://www.angkorthom.us/joomla.
Let he without sin throw the first stone.

Thanks for quick answer. Too bad that I can't use it.

If you are willing to go through the work, you can easily create a new directory for your forum and make sure everything migrates over just right. (make sure you check your php temp and log pathway. You can keep the same db no worries.

I have tried many many forum software packages both standalone and paid to free versions (vb, smf, ipb, etc) and I found that phpbb3 really is one of the best out there. I am not too sure about their support, but the product is easily installed, very easy to adjust and modify to fit your needs. And security is just as good as vb in my eyes. (so long as you do not leave yourself open via custom scripts allowing injections).

I have also tried several joomla based forum components, and I still really prefer ppbb3 over all of them. And this is from Kunena to ccboard and throughout the list. I moved one of our sites over to Kunena and I have to say, I do regret it. And it is too late to go back without loosing all newer the posts.

I hope that can help give a bit more detail. Honestly, I think phpb3+joomla+ p8pBridge is the best combo out there. Once set up it works flawlessly. Unless you are like me and are always changing and adjusting things (Sorry boss- I honestly think I am done now lol). But even then, It is still the best option out there.

As the Boss (admin) showed you, I have p8pbridge working on our main product and development site.
http://darkrelic.com/ and http://darkrelic.com/forum
I also have MightySites as well. And all of these work great. My Joomla has TONS of components (purchased and custom) and does not interfere with the forum at all.

Just something to think about.
Peace,
Sarr
